89 years of passion, the great Hôtel La Prairie

Hôtel La Prairie, 89 years of passion in Crans-Montana

In 1930, Sophie Mittaz-Couturier, aged 33, bought the pension “La Prairie”. That year this marvelous adventure had just begun. With the help of her sister, Virginie Mittaz, and her daughter, Cécile Couturier aged 13, Sophie started building what is now the Hotel La Prairie.

This little pension was surrounded by prairies and forest. Surrounded by nature, chickens, pigs, cows, and a big vegetable garden always bringing fresh products to the pension’s guests’ satisfaction.

89 years of passion and special guests

In 1962, Bernard Pichard, son of Cécile, took over the pension with his wife and decided to expand the pension to a hotel hosting a total of 30 rooms.
Today it’s their three daughters, Corine, Nadine, and Valérie who are running the hotel.

From a second marriage came Julien, who worked at the hotel until 2012.
First in 1987 and then in 2008, some important restoration work has been done to the hotel. Bernard retired in 2011 after 49 years at the head of the establishment to joyfully leave the continuation of the family traditions to his three daughters.

Among all the special guests that we have received during these 89 delightful years, the pension had the great honor of welcoming the famous actor Fernandel.

Today we are looking forward to welcoming you to our warm, family-friendly hotel.
